Beslan Marks End of Mourning Period
Relatives and friends of victims of the Beslan school siege mourned at the cemetery in the north Ossetian town, Wednesday, October 13, 2004. This week marks the end of the traditional 40-day mourning period for the 330 people, more than half of them children, who died in a school siege on September 3, 2004. Women exchanged their black headscarves for dark-colored ones and men prepared to shave off the beards they grew for the 40 days.
