Fears of Haiti Floods Death Toll
Flooding in Haiti by tropical storm Jeanne is feared to have killed more than 2,000 people, Tuesday, September 28, 2004. Calixte Valentin, mayor of the badly-hit city Gonaives, said bodies were still being found 10 days after the storm. Relief workers say food is still not getting to people quickly enough due to security and logistical problems caused by the storm. The official death toll from the flooding is at least 1,514 across the island, but more than 900 people are still unaccounted for.
