France: Many injured in Anti-GM Demonstration
From 17 to 20 people were injured when French police clashed with anti-GM activists and fired tear gas to disperse them in Valdivienne in central France, Sunday, September 26, 2004. Police fired tear gas on the activists when they tried to form a human chain around the field outside the village of Valdivienne. “It was a non-violent operation, we were just making a symbolic demonstration with a chain around the field,” said a spokeswoman for the Greens Party. France has approved tests of GM crops in 15 regions.
