US Air Strike on Fallujah Kills 56 Civilians
US forces launched fresh air strikes on the city of Falluja, killing 56 Iraqis, Friday, September 17, 2004. There were several operations in Anbar province, which includes Fallujah and the other embattled town of Ramadi. The US military claimed that it targeted “safe houses” of Al-Zarqawi and his supporters but Iraqi medics and independent journalists in Fallujah said that most of those wheeled into local hospitals were civilians, including many women and children.
