US Missiles Hit Crowd in Baghdad, Kill 22
At least 22 Iraqis were killed and 45 others injured after US helicopters fired missiles at a crowd in a central Baghdad street, Sunday, September 12, 2004. The attack, which also killed a Palestinian journalist, followed fierce clashes which began when US military vehicles, firing stun grenades, entered Haifa Street in the center of the capital. Many US armored vehicles were set ablaze. The clashes flared as the US occupation pressed on with new offensives aimed at retaking control of resistance-held areas ahead of national elections scheduled for January.
