Who are we?

Look into his eyes you’ll see a thousand oceans there
From this world, he’ll depart without care
For in the world he fulfilled his due
Conquered his self, and to his Self was True

In the still of night, naught but his heart stirred
In the Presence of God, teary eyed his vision blurred
Yet when he looked he saw with eyes so clear
That brought the truth of things to his heart near

See your reflection in the eyes of Allah’s friend
That person dwelling in pupil comprehend
Know that that little man that you see
Is the one you should strive to be

For like that little one you and I
Are small, insignificant, yet we
When not within the scope of eyes
Cause a thousand oceans in his eyes to be.

So then, let us drown in those oceans many times
Let us take our last gasp of the now and here,
Breathe the last breath of the transgressions past
After death embrace, the good that lasts.
