Today’s
terrorist attack (August 19, 2003) is the unfortunate result of
the illegal occupation of Iraq by the US military. And
unfortunately it is only the beginning of a wave of attacks
around the world.
Our
young people are exposed to death every day. They are wounded in
faraway lands merely for the whims and lies of President Bush.
The
death of some twenty civilians and military personnel in this
cowardly act is terrible. This is why it is important that
British and American soldiers withdraw immediately from Iraq.
The United Nations must take control of the situation so that
the Iraqi people understand that this is not an occupation or
conquest of their nation. The United Nations must undertake a
real and humanitarian reconstruction.
According
to the religious beliefs of many of the Iraqi people, their land
is being trampled. In the beginning, they appreciated their
liberation from tyrant Hussein but for them time is eternal and
now they see foreign troops trampling their land.
It
is time for those troops to come home so that the Iraqi people,
with genuine help from the world community through the UN and
other peace organizations, can restore their political, social,
and economic life without imposed preconditions or interference
from any foreign power.
Enough
death and destruction!
It
is time for the entire world, everyone - Anglos, Hispanics,
African Americans, Asians - everyone, to unite and take action.
We must not allow the destruction of our youth. We must not lose
a generation of young people. Let us act now. Let us demand
immediate action from all world governments in order to stop
this terror.
In
the name of my son Jesus Alberto Suarez del Solar Navarro, in
the name of the almost 300 young people who have died, in the
name of the mutilated Iraqi children, in the name of all the
mothers who weep for the loss of their children, in the name of
all the brave soldiers who weep for their absent loved ones, I
beg you, I implore you, let us act now!
