About Us

In early years of Internet age, Qatar-based Al-Balagh Cultural Society launched "Islam Online" - a website in the Arabic and English languages. Its aim was to address all people; irrespective of their geographical locations, linguistic strain, ethnic background, cultural differences.
"Islam Online" had, from the very beginning set a clear and specific mission statement, namely: "to contribute to the Islamic Renaissance Project and to provide a distinctive informational channel for the benefit of the Muslim nation and humanity at large." The site achieved, over a brief period of time, a leadership status among Islamic websites, keeping up pace with global events, providing in-depth analysis within the framework of Islam.
The site secures well-documented information and extends advice and other counseling services needed by its visitors. Additionally, over a period of more than a decade of existence "Islam Online" has enabled the creation of an interactive atmosphere, fostering constructive dialogue and meaningful participation for intellectuals as well as the general public.

New phase

In view of the significant developments in the field of technology and communication, and the evolution of visions and perceptions governing the media, and the standards set by successful sites, "Islam Online" has adopted a new road map that will keep pace with global changes and lend value to the site as a source of reference for the media and news agencies, study centers and the general audience.

Based on this, "Islam Online" has a new editorial policy – a dedication to cover Islamic movements worldwide; from news, analysis, and studies perspectives; analyzing their different backgrounds and orientation.
The new editorial policy will also focus more Muslim minorities in the world; highlighting issues affecting them, and following events impacting their wellbeing.
Consequentially, "Islam Online" aspires to become an authority on Islamic movements and Muslim minorities worldwide, a pioneering media organization that provides information services to individuals, media organizations, research centers, and decision-makers.
Additionally, Islam Online also aims to shed light on the Muslim world covering it from intellectual, religious, political, social and cultural viewpoints, with the objective of correcting the myriad misconceptions and distorted image promoted by Western media corporations, in a bid to control the media narrative and justify a confrontation with Islam.
"Islam Online" also monitors news and socio-cultural events that fall within the scope of its interests, including:
  • Follow-up and monitoring of the significant news from the Arab and Muslim World.
  • Expansion of the network correspondents to cover different parts of the world and provide readers with the latest news from the heart of events.
  • Facilitating a forum for intellectuals and experts to provide readers with event background, analysis and above all a balanced view of world happenings.
  • Present and analyze studies produced by research centers and institutions around the globe in different languages. (Ex: English, French, Spanish, German, Persian, Turkish).
  • Utilize latest technology in presenting relevant material.
  • Provide modern "Media" to unveil the vision of the site and contribute to the provision of a balanced reading of events.
In order to achieve its objectives and keep pace with rapid developments in the world, Al Balagh Cultural Society has established a Strategic Steering Committee, headed by Dr. Jassim Mohammed Sultan; together with Sheikh Abdullah bin Bayh, Dr. Darwish Al-Emadi, Dr. Hassan Rashid Dirham, and Dr. Hassan Bin Hassan. The Steering Committee is engaged in planning in the site's development over the next ten years.

Goals

"Islam Online" goals are specified as follows:
  • To analyze the needs of the Islamic world, addressing challenges facing the nation and abroad and discussing dominant issues.
  • To promote dialogue and open communication channels in order to convey the true message of Islam.
  • To unify the energies of the nation, and not focus on what divides them, under the plurality of opinions and the diversity of individual efforts. The site also aims to combine reason with passion, enthusiasm with wisdom.
  • To report news objectively.
  • To raise issues of concern to the nation and present them in a balanced way.
  • To participate in the research needed by the nation in its renaissance.
  • To focus on central issues in the Arab and Islamic region, and the causes of the nation.
  • To concentrate on people's freedoms, good governance and social justice.

Activities

In addition to information services, mentioned above, Islam Online's strategic vision covers a number of other areas:
  • A Journal providing objective analysis of all issues of concern to Muslims, facilitating positive interaction and an alternative to fanaticism and extremism.
  • Publication of books dealing with global concerns For ex: Islamic movements, Muslim minorities and analysis of the reality of the Arab world.
  • Releasing of the annual report on Islamic movements and Muslim minorities - a source of reference.
  • Organizing conferences to tackle issues of concern to the Muslim world and determine the nature of its relationship with other religious communities in order to establish a culture of coexistence and positive interaction with the world.
  • Participating in global conferences as a means to deliver a moderate vision of Islam, based on objectivity, and building cultural bridges to communicate with other ethnicities.
  • Supporting the production of audiovisual programs aimed at correcting misconceptions.
