What do you visit most Wikipedia or Facebook ?

"If you can make it in New York you can make it anywhere."They used to say this in the past but these days this has changed to "If you can make it on Wikipedia you can make it anywhere." Do you know that Wikipedia is now the eighth most-visited US destination on the Internet? Unlike popular networking sites as MySpace and Facebook, Wikipedia doesn't allow people to post profiles of themselves. The site is governed by three basic policies: Entries should not include any original research; facts must be verifiable via a published and reputable source; and all entries should be written from a neutral point of view. (Reuters) Do you think that Wikipedia is a reliable source of information? What do you visit most Wikipedia or Facebook and Myspace?

I find the question a bit strange coz Facebook and wikepedia are completely different. People use Wikepedia for information and facebook for communication. Personally, I use both.

Possibly seeing if you are a knowledge seeker (Wikipedia) or a social networker (Facebook). It probably says alot about your character if you prefer one of the other. Me, never been on Facebook, or any other of those things. Go to Wikipedia sometimes

Nice answer! Has nothing to do with the topic but then I looked at the source and knew why.

This is perhaps the most absurd comparative question yet. As others have pointed out, one is for information the other for networking. Who comes up with this stuff?

Wikipedia actually is one of the most trust worthy sites on the net. It is constantly reviewed by experts. Sometimes, wrong things are added on there, but they don't last long. They are quickly removed or corrected. Facebook on the other hand is the most disgusting place on the net. Not only are the owners of the site invading your privacy in horrendous ways (I'm a software engineer, believe me - I know), it totally destroys social behaviour of teenagers. "hardcore" members (= and they are the majority) spend more then 2-3h on there a day. Most of their communication with other people happens through facebook. This is a social disaster. Body language is in most scenario's a way of communication wich says a LOT more then the words that are spoken. Teenagers/kids don't learn to "read" such information on facebook. Combine it with Twitter and it's a recipy for disaster. Ever since both of these sites got succesfull, worldwide ADHD patients grew exponentially. This is no surprise. If I had the power, I would shut both of them down, including all other non-professional "communication" platforms. Stuff like LinkedIn etc is great for networking on a professional level. So yeah... wikipedia = good. Facebook, twitter and alike = the pit of the interwebs.

BigB, Ouch!!! I'm an adult and I like FaceBook because it gives me a chance to check in with friends and relatives that I rarely see. I do like Wikipedia alot also. I love the information about countries and the links to the sister cities, many of which I have never heard of. Gives me a chance to visit places that I'll I'll probably never actually visit. Susan

As you have read in my post, my concerns are directed at youngsters primarily. Facebook, twitter, myspace, etc is REALLY NOT healthy for them. It totally blocks their social development. Multiple worldwide studies have proven this beyond refute. I'm not gonna judge you for liking facebook. But I don't really understand the entire concept though. When I speak with friends about it (who do like facebook) they always tell me like "it's great! you find people you haven't seen for years etc..." My default answer to such comments is very simple: "If I would be interested in those people, I would still see them or be in contact with them." Aside from that... I know what the owners of facebook do with the private data you put on there. No thank you.
