Former US vice-president Al Gore, is presenting his
documentary "An Inconvenient Truth" at the Cannes Film
Festival about global warming and the world environmental
crisis .
Can you believe this from a vice president of a country
that refuses to sign on Kyoto Treaty? Not to speak about
its contributions to global warming and other environmental
problems.
Do you think it might be an innovative way of raising
people awareness to environmental issues? Do you think it
is going to work?
I don't think people need to be convinced by the dangers of
global warming, if anyone is to be addressed , it should be
the governments.
I know that many people will say that international
organizations and some NGOs did a lot and can do more, my
question now is: can they give something more than warnings
every now and then that there is endangered species?
Do they have the authority or the power to change?

I can most certainly belive this warning. What the current government in US thinks about this the gravest of our common problems does not affect my view of it. The american economy was the administrations first concern at that time, which made their reluctance to sign the treaty understandable, but not acceptable in my view.

It is another way of raising the awareness and since i have not seen the film yet i really don't know whether that exact film was a good way. In the democratic countries it is of paramount importance to convince populations if any change is to be made. This goes for just about any subject, since the politicians will have to change their view if they want votes. In non-democratic countries it is the government that needs working on and in those unfortunate cases this film will not make much difference of course.

In the free world where it is a right to demonstrate, such organizations as Green Peace and WWF can make a huge difference by staging demonstrations with high "impact value".
Also several of the NGOs have highly esteemed experts who can provide information with "weight". Again it is a question of whether demonstrations are allowed and whether there is freedom of speech so the organizations arguments will be heard at all.

I am speaking prematurely because I have not seen or read the idea presented.  However, what I do not understand of ANY of the governments is that if global warming and the disasters that will come of it as presented by hypothesis has any truth.....

Then why isn't the laws passed to prevent such from happening?  We all have the abilities and technology to make the changes necessary to at least slow it down, if not prevent it.

Just my 2 cents. :)
