Abu
`Uqbah Al-Jarrah Ibn `Abdullah Al-Hakami was very courageous and
brave. He ruled over Basra, Khurasan and Sajistan. In the year 112
A.H. he conquered Central Asia and then came back. But, the
invaded army followed him and he along with his troops were killed
(i.e. gained martyrdom) in the Cause of Allah. This
took place in the month of Ramadan of that year. Also, Sulaim Ibn
`Amir said: I entered upon Al-Jarrah and found him raising his two
hands to the sky; the attendees also raised their hands. He raised
his hands for a very long time then he asked me: O Abu Yahya! Do
you know what were we doing? I replied: No. But, I found you
invoking Allah Almighty and thus I also raised my hands to the
sky. He said: We asked Allah to grant us martyrdom. And, by Allah!
None of these attendees were spared in that fight and all of them
gained martyrdom.
