 Portrait of a Servant

I am a servant
But born to be free
I choose the road to Hellfire or
Glorious Eternity

I am a servant
with a lifelong pursuit
For Knowledge, Truth and
Universal Good

I am a servant
Devoted to my Lord
My nafs my weakness,
my prayers my fort

I am a servant
Humble, virtuous, Obedient
Constantly warding Satan's
temptations

But I am that servant
Deviant to my purpose
Materialism wrecks me, my soul restless

I am that same servant
Hypocritical to the cause
My will is strong, other times lost

I am that ungrateful servant
Human by form, sometimes bestial in nature
My focus in life is sometimes clear,
other times mere conjecture

So am I that talked about servant?
Overcome by senseless Pride
Unmindful of My Duties
or woe Betide

My Lord condemns me
Yet society Glorify me
What path would You choose
As that same servant to God?
