The American Dream
By Nader Salah
One of the main aspects of the American dream is to own your own property, where a house sits, giving the family shelter. As the saying goes that the castle is the home of kings, so to is the modern day home the castle for the king of every family.
One of the most important aspects of owning a home is having comfort. Many real estate agents focus their energy on location. They say that it is the most important thing when it comes to having a home. They say, “location, location, location.”
No one wants to hear their wife complain about an unsafe neighborhood. Nor does anyone want to hear his or her children upset that there aren’t many children their age to play with or even a park to play at. Therefore, many people follow the suggestion of their real estate agent and focus on the area in which they are looking to purchase a house.
Briefly shift your thoughts and imagery to that of owning a house that is built by Allah (SWT) that is waiting for you in Jannah. Do you think that the emphasis will still be the same? In this concept, do you think that you will be focusing on location?
The Prophet (SAAWS) said, “Whoever enters the suq (market, shopping mall) and says, ‘La ilaha il Allahu wahdahu la sharikalah lahul mulk walahul hamd yuhyi wa yumeet wa huwa hiyun la yamoot biyadihil khair wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadir (There is no deity other than Allah alone without partners. To Him belongs all the Dominion and to Him is all Praise. He gives life and causes death and He is the Everlasting and never dies.
Goodness is in His hand and He is capable of all things)’ Allah will write for them 1,000,000 good deeds, wipe out 1,000,000 bad deeds and elevate them 1,000,000 levels in the Jannah and He (Allah) will build a house for them there and give it a name.” Sunan At-Tirmithi
Location, in this sense, should be emphasized. As an example, we have the wife of Firaun. Her name was Asiya. She was a strong believer in Allah. In verse 11 from surat-Tahrim, she says to Allah in supplication, “And Allah cites an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me with you a home in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk.”
Along with the house in Jannah, you may want to have landscape to surround your house. In another hadith, the Prophet (SAAWS) said, “Whoever says ‘Subhanallahi wa Bihamdihi (Most Glorified is Allah and to Him is All praise)’ Allah will plant a tree for them in Jannah.”
Allah is Ar-Raheem. From these examples, we see how easily we can make certain supplications and have the sort of bounties that are mentioned above. May Allah grant us taqwa of Him.
