Vienna: A Sad Memory

On 20 Ramadan 1094 a.h. /12 September 1683, the Ottoman army was defeated just outside the walls of Vienna, a defeat that marked a new phase in the history of that great empire.

In 1683, the Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa marched with his army to Vienna without informing the Sultan. In the beginning, the Ottoman troops succeeded in gaining the battle. But later, the governor of Qirm committed treason and allowed the European forces to pass a bridge and attack the Ottoman troops.

In addition, weakness began to creep into the hearts of the Ottoman soldiers who had previously committed so many sins. Treason brought them final defeat. Kara Mustafa executed Murad Kerai, the governor of Qirm. Later, he himself was murdered.
