JERUSALEM, October 13 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - Two armed
Palestinians, who had crossed into
Israel
, were killed in a shootout with Israeli soldiers Sunday October 13,
near the Gaza Strip, close to the border with
Egypt
.
The
incident, in which two Israeli soldiers were slightly injured,
occurred at Yevul, on the edge of the
Negev
desert, after the Palestinians were spotted by an Israeli patrol, said
the Agence France-Press (AFP).
The
two were thought to have crossed into
Israel
from
Egypt
, according to AFP.
The
deaths brought to 2,584 the number of people killed in the two-year
Palestinian Intifada against Israeli occupation, including 1,917
Palestinians and 617 Israelis.
A
Palestinian child was crushed to death early Sunday and 25 people were
injured when Israeli troops dynamited an area in southern
Gaza
while the occupants were sleeping, Palestinian medical sources told
AFP.
Tawfiq
Bereka, 4, was killed by falling masonry as Israeli soldiers dynamited
a nearby house with a charge so strong it destroyed his house and the
one next door in the southern border town of
Rafah
, they said.
Some
25 other people were injured in the blast, including the young boy's
grandfather who was said to be in critical condition, they added.
Both
the elderly man and his grandson were found underneath the rubble.
Palestinian
witnesses said Israeli occupation troops had ordered the occupants out
of the house slated for demolition, but the charge had been so strong
it destroyed three houses.
Earlier
Sunday, another Palestinian was shot dead in the town as Israeli
troops combed the area.
Ibrahim
Muhamed al-Ghuti, 26, died after being hit in the abdomen by gunfire
from Israeli tanks, Palestinian medical sources said.
He
was taken to a local hospital where he died shortly after.
Some
12 Israeli tanks and a bulldozer moved into the western side of Rafah
early Sunday taking over two buildings, they said.
Four
people were wounded by Israeli gunfire during the incursion, two
critically, medical sources said.
The
other two were said to be moderately injured.
An
Israeli army spokesman claimed Israeli forces were undertaking
searches in the area when they were attacked by Palestinians.
"A
group of armed Palestinians shot at the force and threw hand grenades
so IDF forces shot back, wounding one of them," he alleged.
Asked
why there were so many tanks involved in the searches, the Israeli
army spokesman declined to comment.
According
to an AFP correspondent at the scene, there were no ongoing clashes at
the time.
