Al-Multazam and its Location
In fact, we have several sayings concerning the
naming of Al-Multazam and these are as follows:
Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said,
“Al-Multazam is what is between the Black Stone and the door of
the Ka`bah.”
Mujahid was reported as having said, “What is
between the corner and the door is so called Al-Multazam; and no
one performs a prayer and then supplicates Allah for a thing (in
this place) except that it will bring good for him if Allah
wills.”
In the same vein, Ayyub said, “I have seen
Al-Qasim Ibn Muhammad and `Umar Ibn `Abd Al-`Aziz standing behind
the Ka`bah in front of its door seeking refuge (with Allah),
supplicating Him and shedding tears therein.”
Al-Multazam is also called Al-Mad`a and
Al-Muta`awwazh. It was also reported that Ibn Az-Zubair once
passed by `Abdullah Ibn `Abbas while supplicating Allah at
Al-Multazam. It was so called as such since the pilgrim stays at
this location to supplicate Allah and that the Prophet (peace and
blessings be upon him) used to supplicate Allah therein.
Finally, `Amr Ibn Shu`aib was reported as having
said on the authority of his father who said, “I made Tawaf
(circumambulation around the Ka`bah) with `Abdullah Ibn `Amr. When
we came to the back of the Ka`bah I said, ‘won’t you seek
refuge (with Allah)?’ He, thereupon, replied, ‘I seek refuge
with Allah from the Hell-fire.’ Then, he went until he touched
the Black Stone and stood between the corner and the door of the
Ka`bah. He, afterwards, put his chest, cheek, arms, and palms
against the wall and said, ‘I have seen the Messenger of Allah
(peace and blessings be upon him) doing as such.’”
