Islam and the Internet: Progress or Radicalization?

29/11/2004

Professor Albrecht Hofheinz

Recently voices in the Western media have been warning for the possibility of the media as a meeting place for extremists. Is radical Islam on the Internet truly a serious threat to global security or is the danger seriously overstated while moderate Muslims are actually working hard to create a platform for religious diversity on the World Wide Web. On the other hand, is it not true that the nature of the Internet as a mass medium reduces and simplifies diverse and complicated religious knowledge?

Islamonline.net hosted a live dialogue with Islamologist and Arabist Professor Albrecht Hofheinz to answer these and many other questions.
