US Copter Downed in Afghanistan
A US military helicopter carrying 17 American troops crashed after being shot by fighters in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, June 29, 2005. Afghan officials said the Chinook helicopter was hit by a rocket, but a US military statement said it was not known what caused the crash in Kunar province near the Pakistani border. The Taliban said it shot down the copter during fighting with US troops. Officials said the fate of those on board was unclear.
