Two Killed, 16 Injured in Kashmir Violence 
Two people were killed and 16 others injured in two separate grenade explosions and a shootout in an escalation of violence and protests in Kashmir, Monday, November 29, 2004. Residents disputed the army version saying the troops opened fire at Kashmiris protesting alleged abuse by the soldiers during a search operation launched early Monday morning. Thousands of people have died in Indian-controlled Kashmir since the 1989 launch of an uprising against Indian rule in the region.
