Continuing its humanitarian efforts
in the Middle East, Islamic Relief sent $1.6 million in urgently
needed in-kind aid to Lebanon. Working in collaboration with The
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the groups
dispatched 85 tons of essential aid items such as medical
supplies, hygiene kits, powdered milk, baby formula, and hand
soap to assist the needs of the civilian population.
In addition to the $1.6 million of
in-kind aid, Islamic Relief has allocated $1 million of
immediate aid for the humanitarian crisis and has launched an
international appeal to raise over $5 million.
With over 800,000 citizens displaced
and thousands of others seeking shelter and aid in schools and
government buildings, the need for humanitarian aid in the
Middle East has never been greater. Please help by donating
today.
Jamsheed Din, Islamic Relief staff
member from the United Kingdom, arrived in Lebanon on Sunday,
July 30, 2006. Islamic Relief will be working in the area for at
least three months, providing food and medicine to those who
have been affected by the crisis. Jamsheed will be keeping a
regular blog for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on
his experiences in Lebanon.
"The scars are there for all to
see. Bullet holes can be seen on buildings all over the
city," he reports in his blog. "Just before we go we
hear the noise of an Israeli jet racing past high above the sky.
I have a feeling it is a noise I will become accustomed to in
the coming days."
