"And
by the mountains He (Allah) has stabilized it (the Earth)*, as a matter of
convenience for you (mankind) and for your cattle*". (LXXIX: 32,33)
In these two Quranic verses it is explicitly stated that the stabilization
of the Earth by means of its mountains was a specific stage in the long
process of creation of our planet and is still a very important factor in
making that planet suitable for living. The following question, however,
arises: how can mountains function as means of fixation for the Earth?
