Amidst bright spotlights and
flashing signs, visitors to IslamOnline.net's
(IOL) Ramadan tent inside the virtual world of
Second Life (SL) enjoyed a different type of
celebration.
For more than 90 minutes on
September 10, large speakers set inside the
open arena on IOL's island in SL pumped out
Islamic anasheeds and songs from some of the
most famous Islamic singers.
"This is a very relaxing
experience," said layla Barom, one of the
visitors who attended the party. "And the
setting is perfect too!"
Songs and anasheeds played
were a mixture of Arabic and English.
Anasheeds from munshids like Mashary Rashed,
Ahmed Bukhatir, and Zain Bikha appeared during
the party. Artists performing Islamic songs,
such as Mesut Kurtis from Turkey and the
popular Sami Yousuf were also featured in the
event.
"It was nice to have good
Islamic entertainment during the month of
Ramadan," said Frozenfire Fride, another
visitor to the island, as he listened to
Mashary Rashed's 'Talaa' Al-Badru 'Alayna'.
Maddie Diker, an
Egyptian-American who is a regular visitor
giggled happily as she listened to Sami
Yousuf's "Free" which talks about
the hijab. "This song perfectly captures
how we Muslim girls feel," she explained
to one of the tent's non-Muslim visitors.
The party attracted more than
30 visitors from all over the world. "It
is interesting to listen to this music and see
how it is affected by Western music and vice
versa too," said Vegan Outlander.
