The
battle of Wadi Birbat (Birbat Valley) took place on the Ramadan 27, 92
AH between the Muslim and Al-Qout forces.
In
this battle, Al-Quot forces surpassed Muslims in number, organization,
and military exercises. Moreover, they were accustomed to the atmosphere
of the battlefield and having their lines of supply close to them; all
this gave them a great deal of strength. Yet they lacked a much more
effective weapon possessed by the 0Muslims, that is, the strength of
belief; the true belief in Allah Almighty and the ultimate confidence in
Him.
They
were keen to die for the sake of their Lord, indifferent to this world
and its luxury, and looked forward to the Hereafter and its everlasting
pleasure. The two forces were locked in battle for eight days. Muslim
forces fought courageously and so many were martyred, but the battle
ended with their brilliant victory as a reward for their steadfastness
and deep trust in their Lord.
