of the battle of Badr
|
Before immigrating to Madinah, Muslims endured many
years of persecution at the hands of the unbelieving Quraysh, including
torture, murder, and embargo. Allah saw that the only fitting worldly
reward for the Muslims was a spectacular victory, and a spectacular
victory it was.
The Battle of Badr took place in AH 2 during the month
of Ramadan. The battle played a great role in Islamic history as it
determined the destiny of worshiping Allah on earth. The Muslims were
not ready for such a battle. One could wonder how those Muslims were
encouraged to battle in such a critical situation and without
hesitation? It was sincere faith, relying on Allah and entrusting
matters to Him. They turned to Allah for aid, implored Him with deep
trust that He would never disappoint them. Allah, Who never breaks His
promise, sent them angels to fight alongside them and it was a great
victory.
Achieving victory in war needs preparation, good
training, and weapons. Yet Muslims must have complete reliance on Allah,
Lord of the Universe. Victory, no matter how great the preparation, is
only from Allah the Exalted. Allah the Exalted wants nothing less from
us than that we act as His slaves, obey Him, surrender to Him, and be
subservient to Him alone. There is no better way to become closer to
Allah than by developing a quality of servitude. And only by adorning
ourselves with the humility of servitude do we deserve to have our
supplications and hopes answered by Allah the Exalted. [When
ye sought help of your Lord and He answered you (saying): I will help
you with a thousand of the angels, rank on rank]
(Al-Anfal 8:9).
