Migrants In A “Hostile” Country |
Tue. Nov. 3, 2009 |
|
|
| This week IOL investigates the lives of foreigners living in South Africa , after a new study conducted by a migrant pressure group, claimed that at least two African Migrants were being killed every week in some of the country’s hostile townships. Regardless of this report hundreds of migrants continue to flock to the rainbow nation.
We speak to five migrants from different African Countries living in South Africa , who tell us their personal experiences and why they chose to settle in South Africa .
We also speak to Mr. Nde Ndifonka, Spokesperson the International Organisation for Migration who explains the problem of human trafficking in Africa, where reports indicate that over 1,000 Thai women are trafficked into South Africa for sexual exploitation every year, while thousands of Mozambique, Malawian & Zimbabwean men are trafficked to be sold into cheap labor in S.Africa’s mines & farms.
