Third Al-Quds International Day Marked on Internet

The day also aims to expose Israeli schemes to judaize Al-Quds.

By Mohamad Gamal Arafa, IOL Staff

CAIRO, October 20, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) – Activists launched on Ramadan 17th the third Al-Quds International Day on the internet to remind millions of Web visitors about the history and importance of the holy city for Muslims worldwide as well as the need to stand firmly against Israeli Judaization schemes.

"We want to acquaint Web visitors with the historic, political, economic and religious facts about Al-Quds," Mohamed Al-Sayyed of Hamasna Web site, co-organizer of the Day, told IslamOnline.net Thursday, October 20.

"We seek to exposed the [Israeli] occupier's schemes against Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest place, and how to best challenge them."

A cohort of leading Muslim figures and activists from Malaysia, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria and Morocco will contribute to the international day, which will continue for a week on the Internet.

They will draw the line between legitimate resistance of occupation and the terror labels attached by western media to Palestinian resistance groups.

Million Message

Organizers maintain that Al-Quds Day is an effort to pave the way for achieving renaissance in the Islamic world.

"We are trying to protect the nation against foreign cultural invasion," Mosherif said.

He said that about a million message and e-mail have been sent to newspapers and mass media around the world in an effort to highlight the campaign.

Al-Quds international day will culminate with a statement outlining a set of recommendations form Muslims on defending the holy city and donating for its Palestinian people.

It will be translated into three English, French and Spanish, and will be circulated on the Web through thousands of e-groups in Europe, the United States and the Arab world.

Al-Haram Al-Sharif, which includes Al-Aqsa Mosque, represents the heart of the Arab-Israeli conflict.

Jews claim that their alleged Haykal (Temple of Solomon) exists underneath Al-Aqsa, the first qiblah (direction Muslims take during prayers).

Israel captured and occupied Al-Quds in the six-day 1967 war, then declared its annexation in a move not recognized by the world community or UN resolutions.
