Latino
Muslims say it was easier for them to revert to Islam than to keep
their family relations.
CAIRO,
August 1, 2005 (IslamOnline.net) – Latino Muslim reverts are having
trouble maintaining ties with family members who have stereotyped
views of Islam and putting up with rejection from people who fear
Muslims, according to a US press report.
The
issue of rampant misunderstandings about Islam toped the agenda of
recent gathering of Latino Muslim reverts in Denver, reported the Denver
Post on its Web site.
Juan
Galvan of the Latino American Dawah Association said that after the
2001 terrorist attacks, his sister asked: "Who's your pope? Is it
Osama bin Laden? He started a holy war."
Galvan
estimated the number of Latino Muslims in the US at between 25,000 and
75,000.
