KUALA
LUMPUR, February 15 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) –
Malaysian preachers need to be equipped with bioinformatics technology
to help them deliver the message of Islam and cope with the robust
revolution of information and communication technology, according to a
high-profile Malaysian academic.
Tan
Sri Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid, chairman of the Malaysian Institute of
Islamic Understanding (Ikim) told an “Islam Hadhari”
(Civilizational Islam) seminar on “Bioinformatics as a Preaching
Tool” that Malaysia needs to create a new group of preachers, known
as techno-preachers, who utilize technology in carrying out their
work, according to state news agency, Bernama Tuesday, February 15.
“Techno-preachers
are important as the present-day community, especially the young
generation, is being brought up in an environment inspired by ICT,”
Hamid was quoted by Bernama as saying.
Acording
to Hamid, with the application of bioinformatics, the techno-preachers
would be able to utilize audio, text and visual aids in their work as
well as modern apparatus like compact discs, video compact discs,
digital versatile discs, 3-D animation, multimedia, virtual reality
and video streaming in their preaching.
“What
is clear is that the bioinformatics field can be turned into a
suitable platform to load information from the Qur’an and Sunnah
which can be used as tools in carrying out Islamic preaching,” he
said.
Hamid’s
statements come in line with Prime Minster Abdullah Badawi’s theory
known as “Islam Hadhari”.
