WASHINGTON,
November 3 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) - Incumbent
Republican George W. Bush won reelection Wednesday, November 3, after
his rival Democrat John Kerry called, asking him to continue as
President of the United States for a second term.
According
to The Associated Press, the Democrat called Bush to concede Ohio and
the presidency.
The
surprise call gave Bush a second term of four more years in the White
House and ended one of the most expensive and bitterly contested races
on the record of US democracy.
He
made the surprise call a little after 11 a.m. EST, according to AP,
citing two officials familiar with the decisive call that ended what
many feared might be a redux of 2000 nightmare.
“Congratulations,
Mr. President,” Kerry said in the conversation described by sources
as lasting less than five minutes. One of the sources was Republican,
the other a Democrat, AP said.
AP
added that the Democratic source said Bush called Kerry a worthy,
tough and honorable opponent. Kerry told Bush the country was too
divided, the source said, and Bush agreed.
“We
really have to do something about it,” AP quoted Kerry as saying,
citing the Democratic official.
