PARIS,
June 4 (IslamOnline.net) - The French Organization "Movement
Against War" has prepared a rowdy reception for U.S. President
George W. Bush when he visits Paris on Saturday, June 5.
Posters
reading, "Bush is the biggest terrorist… Stop him" are to
be put on walls in several French cities, demanding anti-U.S. policy
groups to demonstrate in the Bastille Square in Paris, during Bush's
visit to France to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the landing of
Allies Troops in Normandy, France, during World War II, known as
D-Day.
"We
impatiently wait for June 5 to express our resentment and
disappointment towards the
U.S.
oppressive policy; the last feature of which was Abu Ghraib scandal in
Iraq
," Jill Occroi, an official of the Movement Against War, has told
IslamOnline.net.
The
U.S. CBS News network has posted
April 28, 2004
, several photos captured in Abu Ghraib prison late in 2003, wherein
U.S.
soldiers appeared laughing, while Iraqi detainees were naked and
forced to take shameful poses.
Several
U.S.
and British media followed suit revealing photos and documents that
demonstrated the violations perpetrated by the British and
U.S.
troops against Iraqi male and female prisoners in Abu Ghraib prison,
including rapes and coercion to insult Islam.
"The
U.S.
policy, represented by Bush, leads the world into all-out destruction
and threatens the security and stability of nations, as it is based on
arrogance and domination.
"Hence,
we lift the slogan of (Stop Bush) as he is the biggest terrorist on
earth and the one responsible for the Iraqi, Palestinian and Afghani
disasters," Occroi said.
The
"Movement Against War" was very active in
France
prior to the
U.S.
occupation of
Iraq
and it has intensified its activities before planned Bush's visit to
Paris
.
During
the last few months, the organization has launched a campaign that
calls for holding demonstrations in protest against Bush's visit, the
withdrawal of
U.S.
troops from
Iraq
and achieving justice in
Palestine
.
Activists
of the organization said that they expect the number of demonstrators
in
Paris
to exceed 50.000.
Intensive
Security
Regarding
the security preparations, French Interior Ministry sources said that
the Ministry has recruited some 20.000 policemen, fire squad men and
members of the National Guard to maintain security for those
attending, including 17 heads of state, who will take part in the
celebrations of D-Day in
Normandy
.
The
Ministry has raised the alert status to red, the highest alert degree
in
France
that was applied following September 11 attacks in the
United States
.
Security
authorities have subjected all vehicles coming from northern
Africa
to Marseille port to severe checks.
Normandy
coasts have been cordoned by thousands of police and fire squad
troops. Furthermore, the Interior Ministry has closed air, maritime
and land routes leading to the region.
France
commemorates the anniversary D-Day on June 6 through hosting 17 heads
of state, including the U.S. President, who arrives in
France
at a time when the Franco-American relations witness an unprecedented
chill due to
France
's opposition of the
U.S.
invasion-turned-occupation of
Iraq
.
This
year's celebrations are distinguished by the attendance of the German
Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder for the first time since the Nazi Germany
lost World War II in 1945.
