CAIRO
, May 25 (IslamOnline.net) – With a shift of focus to the new battle
field,
Iraq
, the West has failed the people of
Afghanistan
and promises of rebuilding the war-ravaged Asian country have found
their way to the shelves three years after the toppling of Taliban,
British lawmakers said.
An
all-party delegation from the British parliament's Foreign Affairs
Committee will submit in July a report on the situation in
Afghanistan
after a shocking and alarming first-hand experience, reported The
Independent Tuesday, May 25.
"
Afghanistan
is a basket case. It's a forgotten country," averred Eric Ilsley,
a Labour member of the committee.
According
to the Independent, the parliamentary committee will charge in its
report that NATO and the West failed to restore order in
Afghanistan
, which is on the edge of anarchy.
They
will press for immediate action to prevent
Afghanistan
from plunging further into chaos because of Western neglect, it added.
"It's
very worrying. We arrived in
Kabul
and found our ambassador has a private security firm acting as her
bodyguards who look like the Men in Black. They were in civilian
clothes and armed to the teeth," Ilsley recalled.
