U.S. Military Sees Iraqis As "Under-People": British Officer
U.S. soldiers use disproportionate and over-responsive violence against Iraqis
LONDON,
April 12 (IslamOnline.net) – In what could be the most serious threat
to the unity of the U.S.-led occupation forces in Iraq, British
commanders started speaking out against “American troops viewed Iraqis
as untermenschen - the Nazi expression for "sub-humans",
according to a British daily.
The
daily Telegraph Sunday, April 11, quoted the unnamed British senior
officer in Iraq as lambasting the tactics used by the American military
in Iraq, saying “It's easier for their soldiers (U.S. soldiers) to
group all Iraqis as the bad guys”.
British
troops control the southern major Iraqi city of Basra and they have
succeeded notably in reducing confrontations with Iraqis to a minimum,
thus, keeping their losses also to a minimum, in sharp contrast to U.S.
forces in Baghdad and elsewhere.
"My
view and the view of the British chain of command is that the Americans'
use of violence is not proportionate and is over-responsive to the
threat they are facing. They don't see the Iraqi people the way we see
them. They view them as untermenschen. They are not concerned about the
Iraqi loss of life in the way the British are. Their attitude towards
the Iraqis is tragic, it's awful,” the Telegraph quoted the unnamed
British officer as saying.
