ISLAMABAD,
December 10 (IslamOnline.net) - Pakistan handed over six Indonesian
suspected terrorists to a Jakarta delegation Wednesday, December 10,
to be flown to their homeland.
A
delegation of Indonesian security officials, visiting Pakistan since
last week, is likely to fly the detainees, university students, back
to Indonesia later in the day.
"The
students have been handed over to the delegation," a senior
Pakistani government official told reporters in Islamabad.
He
said the Indonesian delegation come with a formal request to take
custody of the six detainees.
Pakistani
police had arrested the students in a swoop on a religious seminary in
Karachi on September 24 for suspected links to Jemaah Islamiyah (JI)
group.
The
Indonesians had been studying at the Abu Bakar Islamic University in
the southern city of Karachi before their arrest.
Indonesian
security officials believe the students to be part of "a sleeper
cell" of the JI.
Hambali’s
Brother
The
detainees include Rusman Gunawan, the younger brother of Riduan
Isamuddin (alias Hambali) - Asia’s most wanted man and the alleged
mastermind of the 2002 deadly Bali bombings.
Officials
said the students had been under surveillance for several weeks
following information from Hambali.
Back
home the detainees would be questioned once again by Indonesian
security officials.
According
to an anti-terror law operative in Indonesia, police can detain
suspects for up to four months before bringing them to court or
ordering their release.
