GAZA
CITY, June 14 (IslamOnline.net) - Palestinian resistance groups shrugged
off Saturday, June 14, an Israeli proposal of a three-day truce whereby
Israel would stop its assassination policy while the factions would halt
anti-Israel attacks.
They
agreed that any security solution to the problem would not work simply
because the crux of the conflict is the Israeli occupation of the
Palestinian territories.
When
the occupation ends, anti-occupation resistance would automatically come
to cessation, said the Palestinian factions.
Hamas
is ready to spare the lives of Israeli “civilians” if and when the
Israeli occupation troops release all Palestinian detainees, stop
targeting Palestinian resistance activists, end house demolitions and
lift the all-out closures on Palestinian areas, Abdul Aziz el-Rantissi
told IslamOnline.net.
But,
he stressed, this does not mean a ceasefire because such an agreement
would only be possible when the Israeli occupation of Palestinian
territories end.
The
Hamas leader shrugged off the truce proposal as a surrender to the
occupation, asserting that as long as the occupation remains, resistance
against Israeli soldiers and settlers would continue.
"The
word ceasefire is not in our dictionary.”
He
asserted that the issue is not simply a ceasefire but rather an
occupation that must come to an end.
Commenting
on reports that Israel might withdraw from the Gaza Strip, with the
Palestinian Authority assuming the security responsibility, Rantissi
stressed that the PA should protect innocent Palestinians and not ensure
the safety of the occupation forces or settlers.
“It
seems the PA had lost the way and does not comprehend its role. The
authority in any country should work for protecting its citizens and not
occupation,” Rantissi said.

The
Islamic Jihad movement spokesman Mohammad el-Hindi mocked at the
“ceasefire” term, which suggests there are two armies fighting each
other.
“There
is only one armed-to-the-teeth army on the ground bombarding Palestinian
civilians with helicopter gunships and the Palestinian resistance is
only responding to the aggression.
“Any
proposal should have a clear article about ending the occupation and the
aggression against civilians. The issue is not three days because after
the expiry of this period Israel would resume shelling and perpetrating
more massacres,” he told IOL.
Hindi
welcomed any Israeli withdrawal from any Palestinian area, lashing out
at the idea of working as a policeman for the occupation.
“We
urge the PA to be very clear with its pledges. We want Israel to
withdraw, end its aggression and release our prisoners,” he concluded.
Assassinations
No Problem
Qadourah
Faris, Fatah official in the West Bank, asserted that the Israeli
aggression is not restricted to assassination of resistance activists.
“Even
if Israel halts its assassination policy, this is only a short chapter
in the occupation book. Millions of Palestinians are being subjected to
daily humiliation at checkpoints as well as continued arrests and houses
demolition.
“The
(truce) proposal would only legitimize other Israeli aggressions. We ask
the PA to oblige Israel to completely end its aggressions, withdrawal
from areas it re-occupied.”
The
Fatah official told IOL that Palestinians would be ready to take over if
the Israeli army withdraws from Palestinian territories.
“But
taken into consideration what befall the PA security agencies
infrastructure, no one should expect much from it.”
No
Security Solutions
Jamil
el-Majdalawi of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP)
refused what he termed as security handling of political issues.
Such
truce proposals would never work, as long as violence cause, namely
Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, continues, he said in
exclusive statements to IOL.
“What
would happen after the three days. We would find ourselves in the same
problem, with a continued occupation of our land, confiscation of your
land and humiliation of our people, said the PFLP official.
“Occupation
is the crux of the conflict and evils in the region and must end,” he
stressed.
Failure
Saleh
Zidan, a prominent leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of
Palestine (DFLP), asserted that the latest Israeli massacres indicate
Tel Aviv opposition to any political process and the roadmap peace plan.
“This
Israeli shifting from all-out war against the Palestinian people to a
ceasefire proposal is reflective of its failure against our people,”
he told IOL.
“This
proposal is a new Israeli maneuver to absorb world pressure and an
attempt to beautify its image.
“We
should look for the roots of the problems which are the occupation,
settlements and aggressions,” Zidan stressed.
He
joined other resistance leaders in welcoming any Israeli pullout
provided that the PA would not work for guarding the occupation.
“Israeli
withdrawal from any spot is a victory of the Palestinian resistance and
Intifada as well as a failure of the Israeli terrorism.
But,
a comprehensive solution of the conflict must come with an all-out
Israeli withdrawal,” said the DFLP official.
In
an interview with Al-Jazeer an Israeli Radio correspondent denied that
Israel had put forward such a truce offer.
He
quoted sources as saying it was an American offer made to both the
Palestinians and Israelis.
