KABUL,
May 12 (IslamOnline.net) - Hundreds of students of the military
university and schools in Kabul demonstrated Sunday, May 11, in front of
the Presidential palace in Kabul against President Hamid Karzai and U.S.
policies in Afghanistan for the second day in a row.
Demonstrations,
wherein students shouted saying "death to Karzai" and
"death to the Americans" took place amidst large numbers of
the international peace-keeping forces and Afghani police, according to
the Afghani Shahadat newspaper.
Students
of the military university demonstrated in protest to the decision of
the transition government to close the university, in an implementation
of a plan whereby the U.S. administration in Afghanistan seek to form a
small Afghani army that includes 70,000 officers and soldiers only.
Such
an army would not have air or artillery forces. The U.S. troops would
train the army and consequently, the Americans would think of dispensing
with the military educational specialized institutions in Afghanistan.
The
paper added that the demonstrators had also called upon the government
to provide job opportunities, improve economic situation and start the
reconstruction of Afghanistan.
The
source added that the student of Kabul University had also staged
another demonstration against the transitional government, headed by
Hamid Karzai.
Political
analysts point to the tension that occurred lately between the U.S.
forces and the northern alliance, particularly its military wing, headed
by Marshal Mohammed Fahim, Minister of Defense in the transitional
government.
Analysts
do not rule out that such fragile relationships between the two parties
will lead to an armed confrontation.
They
say that the evidence of such fragile relationships is the involvement
of the northern alliance's military wing in the demonstrations and that
some demonstrators belong to that northern alliance.
It
is well known that most Interior Ministry officials are members and
supporters of the northern alliance's military wing and have been
employed immediately after the downfall of Taliban movement by the end
of 2001.
It
is worth noting that the last few weeks have witnessed several
demonstrations, in which large numbers of the Afghans participated, in
protest against weak security measures and bad economic situation.
