KABUL,
May 6 (Islamonline.net & News Agencies) – Thousands of
Afghans protested Tuesday, May 6, against the American occupation and
the U.S.-installed government of Hamid Karzai, threatening to fight
the occupation forces unless they quit the country.
Some
3000 demonstrators chanted anti-U.S. slogans, and condemned the
presence of the foreign forces on their lands after ousting the former
Taliban regime, reported Al-Jazeera TV channel.
“Afghanistan
will be the grave of occupation troops as it used to be. It’s time
for Afghans to fight against the American invasion, as they did with
the British and Soviet invaders,” said one protesters.
“We
don’t want to be ruled by Americans or British. We want the rule of
Islam. We want peace and they failed to provide us with it. We want
them out of our country,” stressed a Kabul University student.
A
third protester shouted: “Death to (U.S. President George)
Bush…Death to America!”
The
demonstration was organized by the Scientific Center, headed by Siddeq
Khan, a prominent philosopher known for his staunch opposition to the
communist government in the 80s and the ousted Taliban.
Khan
pledged unabated peaceful demonstrations until the demands of the
Afghan people are met.
“We
want more security, an improved economy and progress in reconstructing
the war-torn country,” he stressed.
The
philosopher lambasted the Karzai government, asserting “they talk
about reconstructing, but instead they are becoming richer.”
He
slammed the U.S.-sponsored reconstruction process, charging that the
only difference Afghans noticed since the toppling of Taliban was the
availability of Internet and the fact that some Afghan women had taken
off their traditional burqa.
The
eastern Khost province was the first theater for anti-American
demonstration on Wednesday, May 1, when students protested the
presence of American forces on their national soil.
