RENDSBURG,
Germany, March 28 (IslamOnline.net & News Agencies) - “I do not
treat Americans, British, or their sympathizers,” is a sign on the
wall of a German doctor’s clinic in Rendsburg, Germany. The German
physician, by so doing, is expressing his protest at the U.S.-led
invasion of Iraq.
Dermatologist
Eberhard Hoffmann, whose practice is in the northern town of
Rendsburg, said "this war has no legitimacy. There is no popular
majority for it," according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Hoffmann’s
anti-invasion sign prompted a warning from German medical authorities.
Medical
authorities in Schleswig-Holsten state have urged Hoffmann to take
down the sign. Meanwhile, they has lodged a complaint with state
prosecutors.
As
the bombs and missiles kept falling on the Iraqi cities, resulting in
hundreds of civilian casualties and heartbreaking images of human
suffering, Fappio Angilly, owner of “Austria” restaurant in the
German capital, Berlin, decided to stop offering (U.S.) Coca Cola
products to his customers.
Angilly’s
decision is not a unilateral on though. Several French restaurants in
Hamburg took the same stance against all U.S. products.
While
acknowledging his boycott move alone may not be effective, Angilly
added, “Should the owners of the 2000 restaurants in Hamburg make
the same decision, this will sure be effective.
“My
decision is a political one to protest that illegal invasion and to
hit back at calls to boycott French products in the U.S.”.
The
boycott campaign in Germany is attracting wide media coverage and is
sure to play its toll on the boycotted products, on the one hand, and
to give a great push to local German products, on the other.
A
German soft drink brand, for years limited to the Cologne area
restaurants where it stemmed, is now available throughout other cities
and sold as “the season’s politically-appropriate drink”.
