"Militarization" the second intifada caused "total destruction of the Palestinian infrastructures and the Palestinian Authority institutions," says Abu Mazen

CAIRO,
December 1 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – The Palestine
Liberation Organization's (PLO) second in command Mahmud Abbas urged
Palestinian factions to halt all military attacks against Israel, in
comments published in Egyptian newspapers Sunday, December 1.
"All
Palestinian factions should declare their commitment to end the
military operations, in all forms, totally and not partially," he
said in an interview conducted in Qatar with the Egyptian newspaper
al-Ahram.
Abbas,
aka Abu Mazen, said the Palestinians should "return to the means
of resistance used in the first intifada" against Israel, in the
late 1980s, "including stone throwing, demonstrations and other
means of peaceful protest."
He
said the "militarization" of the second intifada "has
led to the total destruction of the Palestinian infrastructures and
the Palestinian Authority institutions."
Abbas
called on Jihad to join the dialogue that opened between Palestinian
President Yasser Arafat's mainstream Fatah group and Hamas to draw up
a common strategy.
His
statements came as Israel mounted up its incessant military
aggressions against innocent Palestinians killing two Palestinians and
wounding three others, including two children, in Gaza on Sunday.
Hamas
and Fatah held last month a first round of talks in Cairo and are due
to meet again in the Egyptian capital after the Muslim holy month of
Ramadan.
Concluding
their four-day negotiations in Cairo, Fatah and Hamas reaffirmed
Wednesday, November 13, that resistance is the basis for ending the
Israeli occupation, establishing the Palestinian state and restoring
the rights of the Palestinian people.
The
two groups agreed on forming a permanent committee for dialogue
between them to work out problems or misunderstandings once reported.
A
source of the Fatah delegation told IslamOnline that a halt of martyr
operations was not the main topic on the agenda, adding that Fatah
joins in the Palestinian struggle to end Israeli occupation.
The
Fatah official asserted, however, that the two sides spoke about
"rationalizing operations" so as not to target civilians.
A
Hamas spokesman denied that dialogue touched on the issue of halting
martyr operations.
"Both
Fatah and Hamas carry out operations and it would be unreasonable for
Fatah, which carries out operations just like us, to ask for halting
operations," he stressed.
The
final communiqué of the Fatah-Hamas negotiations reiterated the
Palestinian people's legitimate right to resist Israeli occupation.
