By Ahmed Faruque Hassan, IOL Correspondent

DHAKA, November 30 (IslamOnline) - With Eid-ul-Fitr approaching, thousands of devout Muslims in Bangladesh crammed the mosques including the National mosque Baitul Mukarram to offer the Juma (Friday) prayers in the holy month of Ramadan.

If the moon is sighted next Thursday, December 5, it would be the last Juma prayers. If the moon is not sighted, the Eid day would be celebrated Saturday, December 7, and fasting would continue for one more day, according to religious provision of completing 30 days of fasting. In that case the next Friday would be the last Friday or Jumatul Wida.

As the mosque premises were packed up in its full capacity, the people occupied the street and open spaces adjacent to the mosque to offer their prayers.

The next Friday is likely to be the Eid, but it will depend on the sighting of the Shawal moon.

However, Muslims across the country, including the city observed the last Juma a view to avert loosing it, deemed one of the sacred days in a year.

After the Juma prayers, the Khatib of the National Mosque conducted the Munajat, seeking blessings from the Almighty Allah for the salvation of the Muslim ummah in general and the well-being of the nation in particular. Jumatul Wida, was observed throughout the country with due religious solemnity seeking peace, progress and prosperity for Bangladesh.

Besides, munajat was offered seeking peace for the souls of martyred intellectuals who sacrificed their lives in the country's War of Liberation in 1971. Peace and progress of the Muslim world was also sought in the Munjat. Special blessings were sought for suffering Muslims of Palestine, Kashmir and Chechnya.

The minister was addressing a seminar on " Palestine and present clash" organized on Al-Quds Day at CIRDAP auditorium in city.

Al-Quds Committee Bangladesh organised the seminar and it was chaired by its governor Prof. ANM Abdul Mannan Khan.

Palestine Ambassador to Bangladesh Shahta Zarab and noted Islamic scholar of Iran Ayatullah Shah Rukhi spoke on the occasion.

Farid Uddin Khan presented the keynote paper.
