The
O’Rielly Factor: Attack Islam
|
WASHINGTON,
October 12 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – A Fox TV Talk Show
host, Bill O’Reilly has come under attack for declaring that “the
most unattractive women in the world are probably in the Muslim
countries.”
The
U.S. organization, Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), said
that O’Reilly, who hosts the O’Reilly Factor, current affairs talk
show, was being interviewed by men’s magazine Stuff, when he made his
comments.
He
was asked what he found attractive and he said he rules out devout
Islamic women who favor traditional dress, said CAIR.
“You
can't see them," O'Reilly playfully tells the magazine. "So
you are
assuming that, if (they're) dressed head to toe in black and I can only
see eyebrows, there's something going on."
U.S.
Newspaper Contra Costa Times said that Arab-American activists have
wasted no time in denouncing him. Hussein Ibish, of the American-Arab
Anti-Discrimination Committee, said: "If he really believes this,
then he probably needs his head examined. If he's making an attack on
traditional standards of modesty in some Muslim societies, I think it's
a pretty badly phrased one. I think a lot of our members would be deeply
offended by this. It's so idiotic."
According
to the paper O’Reilly said that: "There was no malice intended.
It was just in jest."
However,
this is not the first time for O’Reilly to attack Islam. On July 10,
he interviewed Dr. Robert Kirkpatrick from the University of North
Carolina for his show. Kirkpatrick, an English Professor, was
responsible for requiring freshman students at the university to read a
book that explains portions of the Quran.
While
Kirpatrick was trying to explain the reasons behind choosing the book
saying: “I'm not sure we do know what the basic tenets of Islam are. I
certainly didn't before I started reading this book,” O’Rielly,
claimed that his is ‘for’ academic freedom but said that he
doesn’t know “what this serves to take a look at our enemy's
religion.”
In
the interview O’Rielly compared the Holy Quran to Hitler’s
"Mein Kampf". He also said that followers of the Quran were
“enemies”.
“I'm
telling you, these are our enemies now. I mean, the Islamic
fundamentalism is our enemy. And I would have preferred you to have an
overall global look at the Islamic world rather than the Koran. See? I
think it would have been more instructive. Would I be wrong there?,”
he told his guest.
In
an article O’Rielly wrote for the Jewish World Review, he proposes
solutions to dealing with this ‘enemy. “The solution goes against
the traditions of America. The way to fight Islamic terrorists is to
terrorize them. Bring the war to their villages and homes. Strike them
unexpectedly with lethal force. This cannot be done with conventional
forces or with rules of engagement sanctioned by the Geneva Convention.
Fighting terror with terror opens the grisly door of human rights
violations and crimes against humanity. Yet it must be done.”
Even
better, O’Rielly says, the United States and Britain should form elite
commando units that would supervise the assassinations of known
terrorist leaders and operatives.
“These
killings could be contracted out to local people, or they could be done
by the U.S. Delta Force or the British SAS. But they must be done
quietly and methodically.”
“Eliminating
terrorist leaders and the people who encourage them -- including Muslim
clerics -- would be both effective and permissible, considering the
global threat they present,” he said.
In
addition to hosting the “O’Rielly Factor” show on Fox News,
O’Rielly is also the author of a book titled “ The No-Spin Zone:
Confrontations with the Powerful and Famous in America”.
