Israeli Occupation Devours Little Asmaa

Asmaa’s father cries over her dead body

OCCUPIED GAZA, August 6 (IslamOnline) – When nine-year-old Asmaa Tahseen Ahmad spoke to her aunt about the new school uniform and bag she planned to buy for the new academic year, she didn’t know that the Israeli occupation was set to eat up her simple dreams and make off with her life as it did hundreds of her peers  throughout the past few months.

On Thursday, August 1, Asmaa went out with her mother on a visit to aunt Fatma’s house a few meters away from their place and exactly 300 meters off the illegal Netzar Hazani settlement, west of Al-Kararah in khan Younes.

As the family sat in peace in the house backyard, they heard sounds of Israeli bullets and the children started screaming.

Asmaa’s mother jumped to her feet and held her baby to her bosom in a desperate attempt to hide it from the wave of bullets. As she did that, she heard Asmaa scream. The little girl was sitting in a chair – her back covered in blood. A minute later, her fragile body embraced the floor.

The shocked mother quickly took Asmaa to Nassr hospital, hoping the child was still alive. But it was too late.

The bereaved mother could not believe her very daughter – that little girl who was just promising her to come at the top of her class – was so brutally murdered and was gone forever.

“The children long argued to visit their aunt in order to have some fun,” the mother said. “They were all very happy, especially with Asmaa’s funny stories.”

Sheikh Tahseen, Asmaa’a father, a lecturer in Islamic Da’wa College, seemed patient enough, describing his murdered daughter as “beloved” and “clever.”

“She was studying at Al-Kararah primary school and was supposed to move to the third year, but Allah chose otherwise. He chose her for Shahada [martyrdom],” he said.

Asmaa’s massive funeral procession issued from the Grand Mosque in Khan Younes, Friday, August 2. Her pure body was laid to rest in the Shohadaa (Martyrs) Cemetery.
