Many Afghanis oppose the U.S. presence in their country

By Husbanullah Mutawakel, IOL Afghanistan Correspondent

PESHAWAR, July 10 (IslamOnline) – A Pakistani newspaper reported Wednesday that five American soldiers were killed as they were being driven around in one of the streets in Kandahar, by a group of people who oppose the U.S. presence in Afghanistan.

The daily newspaper Wahdet, said that the soldiers were in a taxi that did not carry a number plate, and that they were wearing Afghani outfits.

A group of people were able to identify them, however, and when they were sure that they were Americans, they immediately shot them dead.

The Pakistani paper added that a U.S. military patrol came instantly to the location of the incident and the bodies of the soldiers were transferred to one of the U.S. military camps in the city.

Speaking to IslamOnline, Sabghatullah, the official in charge of the immigrant camp in the city of Boldeck in Kandahar, said that the residents of the city are talking about the incident but that he is unable to confirm it.

U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan usually dress like Afghans to be able to enter the cities without meeting opposition from those who oppose their presence in the country.

On Thursday, July 4th, the same paper quoted eyewitnesses saying that some Al Qaeda members have succeeded in fleeing the Jerma Bridge area, which lies five kilometers south of Kuhat, 70 kilometers south of Peshawar and have disappeared from the area. The paper said that the Pakistani forces which is supported by military helicopters have started a search for them.

This, according the paper, led to the death of four Al Qaeda members, two of the Pakistani forces, one of them a police officer and two additional soldiers were also killed in the conflict which took place between the al Qaeda and the Pakistani forces.

Pakistani newspaper al Mashreq, reported on June 19,that the Al Qaeda and Taliban members killed forty soldiers from the U.S. special forces in the southeast area in Afghanistan, near the Pakistani borders. This led to the U.S. retaliating and bombing the entire area.
