Moussaoui Asks to Testify Before Congress to FBI 9-11 Conduct
WASHINGTON,
July 3 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - A French national suspected
of being the 20th hijacker in the September 11 attacks has asked to
appear before the U.S. Congress, claiming he has “relevant
information” about the September attacks.
Zacarias
Moussaoui expressed the demand in a motion filed Monday, July 1, in
the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, during a hearing
designed to prepare for his trial due to begin on October 14, Agence
France-Presse (AFP) reported.
Moussaoui
asked to be allowed to appear in front of the Congress hearing
relating to the September 11 attack, as well as in front of the FBI.
“I
have relevant information and proof relating to conduct of the FBI
regarding the September 11,” he pointed out.
Moussaoui
accused U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema of “gaging” (sic) him
and denying him access to the media and the outside world in general.
“The
world has the right to know about September 11, Leonie Brinkema DJ
can’t deny the world such right,” the suspect added.
Moussaoui,
who is suspected to be part of the September 11 hijacking team, was
unable to take part in the attacks because was arrested August 16 in
the U.S. state of Minnesota for violating immigration laws after a
flight school reported him to authorities as a suspicious alien.
He
reportedly wanted only to learn to steer a plane once it was in the
air and to skip lessons on takeoffs and landings, AFP reported.
However,
these reports were later disclaimed.
Moussaoui
was indicted last December on charges of conspiracy to commit acts of
international terrorism, conspiracy to hijack an airliner, conspiracy
to destroy an aircraft and conspiracy to use arms of mass destruction.
Four
of the charges carry the death penalty.
The
Frenchman dismissed his court-appointed attorneys and said he will
represent himself during his trial.
The
government’s case alleges that Moussaoui underwent weapons and
explosives training in Al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan in 1998.
