NABLUS, June 27 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) – The Israeli
occupation army killed a Palestinian teenager and wounded six others
Thursday, June 27, while Israeli helicopter gunships continue to pound
the Palestinian Authority (PA) building in the West Bank town of
Al-Khalil (Hebron).
A
Palestinian was killed in an exchange of fire with Israeli troops in
the Balata refugee camp near the West Bank city of Nablus, witnesses
and a Palestinian security source said.
Mohammed
Ayesh, 17, fired on troops in a tank with a pistol and was killed by
machine-gun fire, they said.
On
the same day in Gaza, six Palestinians were shot and wounded by
Israeli forces near Rafah refugee camp in the south of the Gaza Strip,
Palestinian security and medical sources said.
The
sources said there had been fierce shooting between Israeli soldiers
and Palestinians in the sector which is close to the border between
the Gaza Strip and Egypt, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.
The
Israelis also bulldozed some 10 Palestinian buildings in the locality,
the sources said.
Earlier,
two buildings in the Palestinian autonomous town of Beit Hanoun in the
north of the Gaza Strip were damaged by shots fired by Israeli tanks,
Palestinian security sources reported.
Meanwhile,
Israeli helicopter gunships resumed the assault on Palestinian
President Yasser Arafat’s local offices in Al-Khalil (Hebron)
Thursday as a standoff between the army and Palestinians hold inside
entered its second day.
Two
U.S.-made Apache helicopters went into action over the “moqataa”
building housing offices of Arafat’s Palestinian Authority shortly
after 9:00 am (0600 GMT) after an eight-hour calm during the night, an
AFP correspondent said.
Palestinians
living next door to the hill-top building said troops backed by tanks
and helicopters had pounded the white-stone edifice most of Wednesday
evening, June 26, and into the early hours of Thursday.
Dozens
of impacts from heavy weapons could be seen on the facade of the
building, AFP said.
Israeli
military officials told public radio on Wednesday they were looking
for 15 to 20 “militants” from the Tanzim, the name Israel gives to
the military wing of Arafat’s Fatah party.
“This
building has become a sort of hotel for wanted Palestinians,”
General David Blumenfeld said on public radio, adding that he expected
more of whom he calls suspects to surrender soon.
He
said the army had arrested 40 “wanted” Palestinians since tanks
rolled back into Al-Khalil (Hebron) on Tuesday, as part of the
so-called Operation Determined Path launched last week.
The
Israeli occupation army has taken control of seven out of the eight
key West Bank cities, including Al-Khalil (Hebron).
