GAZA CITY, June 21 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) -
Israeli tank-fire killed an eight-year-old Palestinian boy inside his
house south of Gaza City and wounded seven other Palestinians, Friday,
June 21, Palestinian security sources said.
The boy, Abdel-Samad Shamalkh, was hit in his chest by
heavy Israeli machine-gun fire, the sources told Agence France-Presse
(AFP).
No clashes were taking place at the time, but Israeli tanks
had rolled into the neighborhood of Sheikh Ajlin, near the illegal
Jewish settlement of Netzarim, earlier Friday and were firing at
Palestinian pedestrians and houses there, the sources said.
The Israeli tank-fire wounded a Palestinian woman and her
two children and two other young girls in their homes, AFP reported.
In addition, a Palestinian man and woman were wounded as
they were walking south of Sheikh Ajlin.
Hospital sources said the seven Palestinians were in
moderate to serious condition.
An Israeli bulldozer also destroyed a Palestinian house in
the area, AFP added.
Journalists from APTV and Television Palestine told AFP the
Israeli occupation army also fired in their direction but that there
were no casualties.
Witnesses also said an Israeli soldier was wounded at dawn
when the tanks entered the area. Israeli public radio reported one
Israeli seriously wounded, without saying whether he was a soldier or
a civilian.
Three
Palestinians were killed by Israeli border guards near the Erez
crossing point between the Gaza Strip and
Israel
earlier Friday
morning.
One
Palestinian was killed after attacking the guards with a grenade and
an automatic weapon and the other two were killed by Israeli soldiers,
AFP said.
In
Jenin, a 13-year-old Palestinian child was killed and five members of
his family were injured early Friday when Israeli occupation soldiers
blew up a house close to their home, a Palestinian hospital source
said.
According
to AFP, there were no reports of casualties on the Israeli side.
The
violence flared in
Gaza
after Israeli
tanks rolled into the northern
West Bank
town of
Nablus
.
Thursday
night, June 20, a Palestinian attack reportedly took place on a nearby
illegal Jewish settlement, killing five Israelis.
Jewish
settlements, built on occupied Palestinian land, are considered
illegal under international law and United Nations resolutions, and
are major obstacles in the way of a
Mideast
peace agreement.
The
Israeli army also continued to occupy five autonomous
West Bank
towns. After
entering Jenin and Qalqilya Wednesday, June 19, it reoccupied Beitunia
near Ramallah, as well as
Bethlehem
and Tulkarem.
