Fatah Official: We Want A Leadership That Believes In Resistance

“Barghouthi represents the new generations of Fatah”

Report By IOL Palestine Office

GAZA, June 8 (IslamOnline) - A senior West bank Fatah Official Hussein Al Sheikh, asked Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to hold the sixth conference for the movement to elect new leaderships saying that there is no place except for a ‘fighting’ leadership.

Al Sheikh accused Palestinian leaderships, which he did not name, of putting the Intifada (uprising) on trial and described them as a dissident faction that have quit resistance twenty months ago and that they sought to manipulate the resistance movement.

Al Sheikh was speaking during a festival that held in Gaza in solidarity with West Bank Fatah leader Marwan Al Barghouthi, who is currently in Israeli jails.

“Those who fight and those who don’t can’t be on the same level in the movement,” he said calling on President Arafat to elect new leaderships within Fatah which are able to continue the resistance and which are credible and have a clean hand.

“No to Fatah leaderships that are outside the lines of resistance. This is the voice of the poor, the tortured and the crushed in the Fatah movement,” he added.

Al Sheikh saluted Al Barghouthi whom he described as the companion of his struggle and said that he was a field leader and not an administrative one and he represents the new generations of Fatah.

“Today, the Israeli occupation forces have attempted to assassinate our struggling leader Yasser Arafat targeting his national project and the symbol around which our people gather,” he said.

Sameer Al Mashharawi, the member of the higher movement committee of Fatah in Gaza strip said that the Al Aqsa Martyr brigades have restored the dignity of Fatah and that the intifada has reformulated the national concepts. “We have to be careful of the voices that try to belittle the Intifada and our people’s sacrifices,” he said.

Al Mashharawi, who is also the general supervisor of the preventive security forces in Gaza, asked President Arafat to expel the corrupt, the cowards and the thieves.

“We ask Abu Ammar (President Arafat) for a dignified nation, which honors those with integrity and disgraces the weak cowards,” he said.

He called on Arafat to give a chance to opposition Palestinian factions to be part of the Palestinian future and asked him to also question them when they do any action that affects the nation and its causes.
