JERUSALEM, June 4 (IslamOnline) - A Palestinian report indicated a
rise of assassination crimes against Palestinian activists, adding
that Israeli acts of liquidation and execution are a breach of
international law.
Article
3 of the International Human Rights Declaration emphasizes the right
to ‘live’ and feel free and secure as a basic human right, the
report issued by the Palestinian Human Rights Center said.
Between
the period of April 29, 2001 and April 30, 2002 there have been 30
assassination crimes which have affected 85 Palestinians, 43 targeted
and 16 not targeted, out of which 8 were children. There were 58
Palestinians injured between moderate and serious injuries, six of
them targeted and 52 untargeted out of which several were children.
The
report said that since the start of the intifada on September 29,
2000, until April 30, 2002, there have been 71 murder crimes in which
111 targeted civilians were killed in. In addition, there were 34
civilians killed in these crimes, including 11 children.
These
crimes, the report said, were carried out by a specific unit of the
Israeli army
Called
the “special unit” or the “death team”. They were carried out
using different methods such as:
Meanwhile,
the specified period of time also witnessed a change in the targeting
of Palestinian civilians which was reflected in the callous attitude
towards the lives of Palestinians while the assassinations are carried
out. Three assassinations were carried out in which 8 children lost
their lives.
On
December 12, 2001, two Apache helicopters struck a number of civilian
cars which were stopping at a traffic light at a cross road in the
city of Al-Khalil (Hebron) targeting Mohamad Ayoub Sidr, an activist
in the Islamic Jihad Movement. Two children Burhan Al-Yihmoni, 3, and
Shady Arafa, 13, who were in a nearby cab were also killed, and 14
civilians were wounded, two of them seriously.
On
March 4, 2002, an Israeli tank fired a missile at a civilian car
belonging to Hussein Abu Kweik, one of the leaders of the Islamic
Resistance Movement Hamas in Ramallah. He was not in the car but his
wife and three children who were inside, were killed. Two other
children who were in a car behind them were also killed. Ten nearby
pedestrians were seriously injured in the incident.
