A Swedish Conference For Trying Sharon As A War Criminal

war criminals must be tried

By IOL Correspondent, Yahya Abu Zakariya

STOCKHOLM, June 1 (IslamOnline) – Swedish politicians and legal experts demanded the necessity to unite the European laws, so as to make possible trying those who abused humanity, on top of whom comes Israel’s Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. They pointed out the need for amending some European legislations that ban putting a senior official on trial while still in power.

A conference, held Thursday, May 30, 2002, and organized by the Swedish Oulf Palma Center in Obsala City, 60 kilometers from the capital, called for trying Sharon as a war criminal, due to committing several atrocities against humanity. The conferees compared Sharon’s case to that of ex-dictator of Chile, Augusto Pinochet, who was recently tried in the British capital, London.

The conference was organized by active personalities of the ruling Swedish Social Democratic Party.  In his speech, head of the Palestinian Associations’ Union, Dr. Ayid Ahmed stressed that “evidences against Sharon were gathered by Zionist groups themselves after Sabra and Shatila Massacres in Lebanon 1982”.

“These evidences, in addition to other massacres committed up till Jenin, could be used to try Sharon in Europe,” Ahmed added.

Other participants insisted on trying Israeli officers and soldiers that took part in killing the Palestinian innocent civilians, and not just Sharon.

For her part, Liza Biling, Solidarity Minister Consultant and a leading candidate for the Swedish Parliament, cited Sharon as “one of the worst war criminals of the 20th century, thanks to his black record of massacres against the Palestinians”.

Liza’s father worked as a Swedish doctor in Palestinian Camps in Lebanon. She studied Arabic, and she usually participates in Arab and Islamic anti-Israel rallies in Sweden.

Oulf Palma was Sweden’s Prime Minister, assassinated in 1986, in the capital Stockholm. He was one of the leading supporters of Arab rights
