GENEVA,
May 29 (IslamOnline) – Swiss Lawyer, Marcel Bossonett, decided to
file a lawsuit before the Swiss military court against Israeli
government and its army for the war crimes committed in the
Palestinian territories, as well as violating the Geneva
Conventions’ rules regarding civilians during occupation, conflicts
and wars.
Bossonett,
leftist, has just returned from a visit to the West Bank, where he met
the families of Palestinian victims and the residents of the camps,
which witnessed atrocities committed by the Israeli army during their
aggressive operation entitled ‘Defensive Shield’.
He
has also visited the places invaded by the Israeli army during the
last few months, to see the destruction they left behind.
Giving
the facts that the military Swiss court has the right to investigate
cases of international law violations regardless of the time or place
of committing such violations or whether they were committed inside or
outside Switzerland by a civilian or military person, Bossonett
intends to present to the court the information he got, as well as the
reports released by Swiss media, concerning the Israeli criminal
actions in the Palestinian territories.
His
case is based on the Geneva Agreement which forces all the participant
countries to try anyone accused of committing war crimes or violations
against the agreement, regardless of their nationalities.
Meanwhile,
the Swiss-Palestinian organization decided to support the Bossonett
project through fund raising campaigns.
Switzerland
is the country protecting the Geneva agreement signed in 1945,
nevertheless, the Swiss military law has not been amended since 1967
to conform with the agreement’s articles.
The
first case presented to the military court was in the year 2001, when
a Rwandan official was tried for committing war crimes against
civilians, and the court sentenced him to 14 years, as he was living
in Switzerland during the trial.
