JERUSALEM, May 30 (IslamOnline & News Agencies) - With more than
20 armored vehicles and supported by assault helicopters, the Israeli
occupation army Thursday, May 30, launched two incursions into
Palestinian-ruled areas of the West Bank and abducted 10 Palestinians.
Acting
on what the Israelis call “pinpoint information” from their
intelligence services, Israeli troops entered the autonomous
Palestinian sector of Al-Khalil (Hebron) in the south of the West
Bank, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.
The
incursion took place from three directions under a heavy cover of fire
while the Israeli army searched many houses and put many others under
siege.
Qatar-based
Al-Jazeera satellite channel said that the Israeli troops forced a
curfew in many neighborhoods.
The
Israeli forces withdrew in the early hours of the morning, and that
two of the detained Palestinians were members of the Islamic
Resistance Movement Hamas, AFP reported.
Six
Palestinians were also detained early Thursday during an incursion in
the village of Faroun, south of the town of Tulkarem.
Meanwhile,
Israeli troops continued their occupation Thursday of the Palestinian
West Bank town of Bethlehem.
The
Israeli police said they were on the alert and carrying out numerous
checks at entry points into Israeli cities following alleged warnings
of attacks planned by Palestinians, especially in the Jerusalem and
Tel Aviv regions.
Meanwhile,
Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) director George Tenet is to leave
Friday, May 31, for the Middle East on a mission expected to focus on
the Palestinian Authority's security apparatus, a top U.S. official
said Wednesday.
The White House announced that U.S. President
George W. Bush will welcome Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for two
days of talks at the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland, June
7 and 8.
